Attaching/Linking Files

M-Power allows you to Attach or Link external files to various items within the system. These include Quote, Customer Orders, Bill of Materials, Purchase Orders etc.

Note that the File System Integration feature must first be set-up to point to the correct location within your computers file system in addition to the folder structure you require to be specified.Please see this knowledge base article for further information on setting up this feature.

To attach or link a file open the item (Quote, Customer Order etc.) to which you would like attach or link the file. Look for the Related Files button, note that Customer orders will have two buttons as shown below. One for attaching or linking to the Order, the other for attaching or linking to the Variation (Bill of Materials).



Upon clicking the button you would seethe dialog below.



**Note: Depending on the requirements of your company various elements of this dialog may be hidden. In particular some companies do not allow Attaching, only Linking of files.

1.  Method (Attachment or Link)

2.  File Name

3.  Attach a File
    (A copy of the file is saved within the database, the original file is unchanged)

4. Link a File
    (The location of the file is save, the file is not copied or moved)

5. Remove a File
    (If attached the file us deleted from within the database. If linked only the link is deleted, the file itself remains unchanged)

6.  Open
     (The file is opened using the default application (ON THE SERVER MACHINE) for that file type) 

7.  Save
     (Opens a standard Save Dialog allowing the user to choose the location to save a copy of the file)

8.  Save All
     (Opens a standard Folder Dialog allowing the user to choose the folder in which to save a copy of the files)

9.  Copy to ... & Link
     (Copies the file to the automatically created folder for the Quote, Customer Order etc. and creates a link to the new file)

10.  Open ... Folder
       (Opens the automatically created folder for the Quote, Customer Order etc.)


Depending on how your companies installation is setup you may be able to view file paths from Jobcards and other reports.
